Kristen Fickes
Kristen is a pre-licensed Professional Counselor who is currently completing her master's degree in Counseling Psychology at Elizabethtown College. She has over a decade of experience as an educator working with middle school and high school students. During this time, she earned her master’s degree in Gifted Education from Johns Hopkins University. As an educator, she witnessed a growing need for mental health support among adolescents. Driven by this need, she felt compelled to pursue counseling to provide more meaningful support to others. Kristen specializes in supporting bright individuals as they navigate their “gifted baggage” and high potential. Issues such as perfectionism, impostor syndrome, underachievement, and existential anxiety are just a few of the invisible weights these individuals hold. As a former volleyball player and coach, she also brings a unique skill set in supporting collegiate athletes with the stress that accompanies being a student-athlete. Kristen is passionate about supporting individuals at every stage of life as they tackle stressors, make adjustments, and move toward greater self-awareness. Her counseling approach is collaborative and client-centered. She strives to understand the whole person--each aspect of one's identity. Their story. Their values. Their unique strengths. All are tools one brings into each therapy session. Kristen draws primarily from narrative therapy, trauma-informed care, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). She also incorporates humor and creativity as needed.
Auggie
Auggie is a 3 year old Shichon (Shih Tzu and Bichon Frise) who comes to the office a day or two each week. This breed is often called the "teddy bear dog" with its sweet round eyes and fluffy coat. Auggie is a lover of all people and assumes you love him too! Although not technically a therapy dog, he is in training and enjoys cuddling next to you in therapy sessions (after you give him a "cookie," of course!). That being said, he understands not all individuals love dogs and is content to enjoy his bone in his crate while you are here or not come in to the office at all on the days you're here, if you prefer.
